Question

Sub Floor


im finally getting to work on my house and am installing 3/4 oak and the sub floor is 1/2 ply with 1/2 particle board the nails will go through both am i good or should i rip up the particle board and put more ply

I would not recomend putting hardwood over that particle board. It will sweel up and cause ya lots of problems down the road. do it right the first time and take it out. yeah its a PIA. But more prep now will save your floor and make it last longer

1/2" Ply? Man I've sen some cheap tract homes but none with 1/2" plywood subfloor. Rip the particle board out. They generally cover this on Saturday mornings.
