Staples Vs Nails For Hardwood Floor
Any comments on what is best, or suitable, for 3/4 inch tongue and groove oak hardwood over 3/4 inch high quality(Advantex) weather resistant OSB tongue and groove subfloor? Nails or 2 inch staples?

Re: Staples Vs Nails For Hardwood Floor
Staples most definately
T&G flooring closes gaps easier and holds better (less squeaks) when installed w/ a flooring stapler. |

12 inch pole barn nails with a rubber grommet and a lock washer.

Re: Staples Vs Nails For Hardwood Floor
Just put some oak down over advanteck with staples, held great but not so good in the existing 1 x 6 T&G pine subfloor.

Re: Staples Vs Nails For Hardwood Floor
Define 'nails'. Do you mean ribbed cleats?
If so, I saw results of a study of staples and cleats with plywood. Initially the staples hold better but over time with moisture cycles, the glue on the staple legs lost grip and the cleats were holding better. There are differences in quality of cleats, some have better ribs than others. I don't know how that relates to OSB. |
