Staple or cleat?

does anyone use staples still or are you all using cleats? or both and when?

I use staples but I'm putting in Pine. It seems to hold it better.

I have used both and sometimes the wood will determine what you have to use. As far as holding power they both hold well as long as they are set correctly. Staples are also a lot cheaper.

I prefer staples, but some woods (stuff that splits very easiliy) nearly require cleats. Staples are indeed cheaper and imo hold considerably better. I have taken up more than my fair share of both and I would much rather rip out wood that has been put down with cleats.
