squrra foot pricing for flooring

would like to have a ball park price for installing prefinished flooring, ie. Bellawood 2.1/4" ... if laying on ply substrata is felt required? I believe the felt is more for sound than moisture...

$5.00/ sq. ft.

But that's here, not there. I'm sure you'll read many times over what I'm about to say if you read many posts on here, but here goes anyway.

Figure out YOUR total cost of doing business per hour then figure what YOUR production rates are and divide it out...add some for profit and there ya go.

Around $2.00 sq ft just west of Chicago. That's labor only with me supplying 15 lb tar paper and staples.

The two posts above show you why any pricing you get here is worthless- you've got two guys, both in Illinois (I don't know how far apart), giving you numbers that range from $2/SF to $5/SF. I think that pretty much shows that you've got to figure out what your costs of doing business are, and price according to that. If that makes your price "too high" compared to the "competition", you've either got to create a unique selling point to justify paying more for you, or figure out how to work more efficiently.

Jay I am in your area, Hampton to be exact. I get 2.75 a sf base price. I also do not bid every job the same as they are not the same so figure from that lol. I might do a wide open room with no obstructions, NO prep, and no trim to worry about for 2.00 but 400sf of hallways and closets with angles every where I might bid at 4.00....I might not get it either, but if I do it's worth doing

I agree with Precision... I don't price by the square foot, per se. It definitely is part of the calculation, but so is total square footage, material type, pita charges, etc. And likewise, I may bid high for something I really don't like, and pad it enough that if by chance I do get it, there's enough in it to make it worth my while.
