Squeaky House
Called to look at a squeaky floor problem today. 2100 square feet of squeaks in every room. 2 story home only 12 years old, osb over 2x10's.
I will pull up carpet and screw decking from above but in the kitchen and baths, laundry, dont want to remove flooring. Anyone know of proven way to eliminate these squeaks from basement? I have good access from below. I remember seeing some sort of bracket to be placed from below in the past (squeak ender 2000?)lol. Anyone use such a thing? Any other suggestions? |

Re: Squeaky House
I'm not a fan of the shims, that would further separate the osb deck from the joists.
Try liquid nails (or equivalent) on two sides of a 2X2, holding the 2X2 tight to the joist and deck and nailing it into the joist. Give a full heavy bead of glue against both the decking and the joist and you should be fine. If you want to be really sure the bond isn't broken, don't let anyone walk on the floor for 24 hours. |

Re: Squeaky House
The squeak ender brackets are a good design, but would be very costly for an entire house.... Make a jig to predrill an angled pilot hole through the joist and an appropriate sized screw to suck the subfloor back down. A little glue before screwing would help as well...

Re: Squeaky House
I usually use a sawzall and fill in with wood filler goo.
Not many know that in some areas, wood planks need sixteenth inch spacing for expansion and contraction. Them girls may be too tight. Did you let the wife know that? Only problem with that is homeowner usually wants to sand and stain the whole floor afterwards.
