Slate Tile

I was just wondering about sealing a slate floor, I know there is alot of arguments between crews on sealing the tiles before you set them ..setting them ,sealing them, grouting them and sealing them again. Setting them , grouting them and then sealing the. Is there a right way here? I have done all except sealing them before installing them...it just seems to be time consuming!! I have also used a Mason Bag to grout 350sf one time and I lost my a*s on that job...I just figured it would be faster than trying to scrub the grout out of all the cracks. Also has anyone ever used a Urethane over a slate floor after sealing? I would like to try that on a floor at my house first but I wondering if it will start flaking up after a few years...I was gonna do about 3 coats brushed on.

there are grout bags that resemble a cake bag for decorating.
Squeezes a nice even stream of grout goop.

If you don't want to buy a grout bag, you can use a heavy duty contractors bag. just nip the corners, not as clean but effective. But if you do it all the time, get the right thing the first time.
