Shower Floor Liner

can grace ice and water sheild (roofing material) be used as a liner for shower floors?

i saw this done on 3 shower floors before the tile was set, and questioned its effectiveness.

the installer said he has been using it exclusively, and the mfgr says it will work.

he likes the adhesive properties of the material, and says its more workable and easy to position than the liner.

any thoughts on this?

Re: Shower Floor Liner

No the manufacturer warranties it.

If you use a manufacturers product in the tile world and install it properly and you have a failure you can contact the manufacturer, they can send a rep, they can investigate, they will pay you to redo it.

Try calling Grace ask them to do that, but after about 20 minutes into the conversation drop the bomb on them that you're talking about a shower and not a roof.

Re: Shower Floor Liner

OK this is kinda silly and please it's without insult!!! when building a shower it is ultra important to use a system not just one element.how can a single thing like water proof membrane be considered a system? I truly believe in the Schluter system because of the 39 showers to date over 9 years and not one single call about a problem and the first one I did was mine ! Sure it's expensive but without regret!!!!

pretty much the word "system" describes the Schulter concept.

  1. A group of interacting, interrelated, or interdependent elements forming a complex whole.
  2. A functionally related group of elements.
the drain, the Kerdi, the corners, the Band and the Kerdi fix is all a system to make one helluva system.

dont get me wrong, there are other "elements" out there that I like
to use for waterproofing from Noble, RedGard, 9235 & HydroBan.
