Selecting A Tile

Looking for some tips on selecting a tile for my master bath in my house.

I wanted to use a standard beige tile probably. I see them on sale all the time at the box stores.

Is there an advantage of using a higher priced tile the same color though?

Re: Selecting A Tile

Ceramic tiles have a numbered rating system, which I believe is related to hardness. Usually lower priced tile has a less desireable hardness rating.

if you mean through body porcelain that is different than glazed porcelain, through-body or unglazed porelain usually has a PEI rating of 5 which is the highest.

Re: Selecting A Tile

How many square feet?

The reason I ask is because if you go with the cheapest tile at $1.50/square foot and we're talking about 40 square feet of tile, this is a good opportunity to put in a nice tile and spend $3.50/foot.

So buy the tile YOU WANT.

Buy the same Batch / Lot numbers

Ceramic Tile is also cool on the feet, so you might want an electric radiant heater installed under it

It is also slippery, make sure you use a rug by the shower / bath or get ??? (d@mn can't think of the word) slip proof / textured tile

Re: Selecting A Tile

Lots of good info, thanks guys. I was thinking of going with a broken pattern, with different sized tiles in a pattern. It's probably right around 40sqft, so the price it's self is not a huge problem in such a small area. The knee wall around the tub will have tile also, so I've been thinking of idea's for that, or just going with the same tile around that.

I was planning on putting the radiant heating system under also, I have tile in my current bath and I hate cold feet after showering!

I look for a lot of pictures for ideas. I really need to find a tasteful wife to do this stuff for me!!!

Here is the system I use for heated tile. subfloor+thinset+nu-heat mat+thinset+ditra+thinset+tile. make sure you get the alarm for the heat mat and hook it up and leave it so you know if there is a problem it will scream at you.
