From Rot To Tile In Japanese Bath
hello, i am a timber framer by trade but have started into japanese style bath houses which brings me here
it is an older home: on the joists sits 2x12 sub floor and on it sits 3/8" plywood then linoleum. Lino is up and out, there was a bit of rot into the plywood and 2x12. The 2x12 runs part under the wall and is 80 there so i feel i can keep it and add some kind of fill/patch to level it off, then patch in the 3/4" plywood. Questions: what do you generally use for patch material, one suggested 'Poly Underlay Plus Floor Leveler', it is cement based? With the 2x12 subfloor and 3/8" plywood, do i put my membrane/liner on this, then mud floor sloping to drain at about 1 degree, then thinset, then tile? OR does the floor need more underlay? it seems pretty stable at this point. kind thanks, michael hollihn, prana timber frames

Re: From Rot To Tile In Japanese Bath
maybe too much deflection if your plywood is not at least a total of 1 1/8 thick.
Either that or install concrete board on top of the plywood subfloor.
