Removing a small section of laminate flooring

I'm framing out a widened doorway in a kitchen that has an older style laminate flooring which is tongue and groove, but also glued together. I need to remove just a few sections without damaging the rest of the floor. Any tips????

When I have to do it, I use a circ saw with a fine blade to cut it. I tape the lines with blue masking tape and draw my cut lines on the tape. The tape helps control the chipping. You have to be careful about scratching the floor with the saw base, I usually tape the bottom of the base with duct tape, and keep the sawdust from gathering under it during the cuts. If the saw has a vac attachment, it helps control the dust nicely. To get what the saw misses, I finish up with a rotozip.

I have also used a router (laminate trimmer) with a small (1/4") straight carbide bit and a straightedge to trim laminate flooring as well.

Obviously with both methods you have to watch your depth of cut.

This seems to be excellent advice. Just remember: take your time. A hurried product may be a lousey one.

When replacing the board...if in the center of the floor and not the edge....
cut off the bottom of the groove on last the last board . NOT THE TONGUE !

Just the bottom of the groove.
