Newer Stick Vinyl Tile

Have you guys ever installed this newer vinyl tile (saw it at Home Depot) that is sticky on two sides. It is floating and claims to be waterproof. The sheets are a little shorter than laminate and about the same width. The ones that I saw were made to look like real wood. My buddy is going to put it down on his parent's and I was interested in trying it out as another flooring alternative for wetter areas such as bathrooms and kitchens. Anyone ever install this stuff? Good or bad? Any tips for an easier install? Thanks

We did three bathrooms with Traffic Mater Allure flooring. The product installs and looks very nice. Two floors were striped to concrete and primered and installed while one installed over an existing vinyl floor. Its warantied for 25 years but who knows. One nice thing is if a piece gets damaged you can pull it out of the floor and replace it.

It's sticky on both sides so it'll catch flies.

From what I can tell it sure seems water proof when the perimeter is sealed. Its advertised as waterproof.

Re: Newer Stick Vinyl Tile

What about the joints between the tiles??
The whole point of sheet vinyl is that you can weld the joints and make it waterproof. Tiles can never be waterproof.
Kinda defeats the purpose.
You can use a Pu or epoxy adhesive but there is the chance water ingress will still make the floor finish fail.

That was a rhetorical question anyway.

Re: Newer Stick Vinyl Tile

I don't get the original point.
If a tile is indeed sticky on two sides?, how can it be termed floating?
The tiles will move all over the place if it is floating.
Is it similar to Amtico etc. only with adhesive on it already? What about cutting in around the perimeter, adhesive all over the ones already stuck? or is it just a tackifier.
More than likely just a cheap version of Amtico et al.

Re: Newer Stick Vinyl Tile

The flooring itself floats... the overlapping 1" joint is sticky on both "sides".
I used some of it in a small closet/office that would be seeing alot of chair traffic. Laid down very nice... the stuff seems to be tougher than all get out. The adhesive is time sensitive.. after a couple of minutes it was everything I could do to separate the two pieces. I think it is an excellent product in small areas prone to getting wet... like entry closets, mud rooms etc.

I hope it does the job.
Nothing wrong with going for something new if it works.
