yep I am going to another flooring store/installer on monday as the one I went to isa large place that specializes in nothing except hardwoods and tile, but I think honestly a 16 year old kid working at my local electronics store would of probably been more informative about flooring then these people. "Ummm yeah let me go get the manufacturers catalog and see what it says." Hahahaha so I figured the people who work with it daily might have a little info for me until I have time to get to a different place, but I guess not

Re: Need Some Pros And Cons

its a personal choice but get what you like. i got news for you ...even these hard hard floors ding dent and scratch. most anything brazilian is tough to install and will be priced to you that way. some cannot have oil based applied to them as they will not dry due to all the crap that inside those exotics.brazilian cherry is the exception to this and is why its so popular. i have done some brazilian oaks that bent every other nail on my air staplers and had to be pre-drilled on the ends. takes time and that means money....and if its not a good mill good luck getting anything over 3 inches to pull tight and if its prefinished and it has bad milling or drying from the manufacturer they will have to pry it together with screwdrivers and WILL leave marks behind on prefinished. contact NWFA for reputable mill for your particular prefinished exotic

I asked the store rep and she says to install tile instead.

That's what they told me too...something about the 'ultimate hardness rating'

Re: Need Some Pros And Cons

the only thing I have against pre finished floors are the bevelled edges.
They like to collect dirt. They are nice though and teak is a beautiful wood.

Not all prefinished wood, has beveled edges. There are many square edge products available.

Re: Need Some Pros And Cons

Just put down brazilian teak in my house and it is too hard. I went through 2 good CMT miter saw blades. You cannot face nail anything. Even if you predrill it a little small, it will split. The best way I can describe nailing through it is like sinking a 16d into concrete.

Re: Need Some Pros And Cons

i put down some african crap one time that all had to predrilled and hand nailed..and each time the drill bit came out of the hole it would spew a gas like substance..it was weird...been a few years since that one. Just looked at a 3000 ft job ...builder installed about 300ft and he's telling me uhhhhh....ya,.. just ..uh ran out of time so can you give me a quote. he tried telling me it was jatoba until i pulled the paper and saw brazillian redwood 4inch. he did finally come clean that he gave up on it because it was too hard to install. he was actually going to put oil base on it..his other floor guy had no idea that poly wont ever dry on that crap
