Does Your price $18-20 per SF include liner, cement board, cement slab for shower floor?

No, it doesn't. Just the shower pan alone, not including the labor for the tile, I get 30.00 a foot.

$30 a sq ft?

They pay that kind of money in the backwoods of Maine?

Not too many beef jerky shacks have tile, hugh?

Re: My Tile Project. Want Input!!

It would floor you (no pun intended) the number of multimillion dollar SUMMER HOMES up here within 20 minutes of me. I live in what's known as the "Lakes Region". Within that same 20 minutes of my house, there are 8 different lakes, including one of Maine's biggest (Sebago). That makes for alot of shorefront property that the summer folks LOVE to come up here and snatch up to build on. In addition, there are so many contractors who think they're tilesetters and prove it every day with their knowledge (or lack thereof) of shower building. If you want a properly built shower, it's going to cost. I'm not holding a gun to anyone's head. They can go ahead and have Joe Schmoe install it if they like. It's like the car oil commercial-- you can call me now, or call me later.

Bill,
Don't mind Matt too much. He comes across that way in nearly every forum he posts on. I think it's his coffee, or somethin'.

Shaughnn-- the funny part is when I read this-- Not too many beef jerky shacks have tile, hugh? it made me think of an experimental BARN that I tiled a few years ago! They figured out that acid from cows' saliva was eating up the concrete, so we tiled the feed bins with quarry tile and sp-100 epoxy.

You know. You do something nice for somebody and they crap all over you. Even though they probably didn't say anything to you, Bil. I'm sure the cows appreciated your craftsmanship.

Re: My Tile Project. Want Input!!

Don't take the beef jerky shack thing personal.
I've seen some of your work, and I wouldn't mind having people like you as subs down here.

Sebago is a nice area of Maine though.
We stayed on Frye Island a number of years back.
Took the boat out and jumped off those cliffs, however high they are.
Good times.

My stepson Adam does it now, the numb SOB. THose cliffs are about 35 feet high. I've fished tournaments just off Frye Island.

Go to this website, and the picture on the front page is the barn we tiled:

Re: My Tile Project. Want Input!!

Sorry to give my advice on something that is already done, the job looks pretty decent, I wouldn't do this pencil around the switch, i think it's unproffesional looking.

Re: My Tile Project. Want Input!!

I think you did a really nice job, especially for not being your bread and butter. It is a little busy for my eyes but i'm not the customer. It looks like you had fun and put a lot of thought into it. If you put this on your resume, it will show the clients an array of choices for their project.
I would charge around $15 a sq foot for all that detail.
