Menard's

I've been a loyal Lowe's customer for years. I think they have good quality products and they usually give me a good price. I went into a Menard's the other day and looked through their selection of laminate flooring. I had never heard of any of the brands of laminate that Menard's carries, and I've been installing laminate and ceramic for a few years now. Has anyone installed a job using Menard's flooring? It looks pretty cheap. I also noticed they carry a brand of vinyl called IVC, which I had never heard of. I generally use Amrstrong or Congoleum for my jobs. Any info would be helpful.

Re: Menard's

That's the problem with Menards, they carry a lot of cheap or off brand stuff.

They must be a regional chain. I've only seen them in Iowa.

Re: Menard's

They're big in the midwest. When comparing pricing on exact same items between Menards, Home Depot and Lowes- Menards comes out on top.

Re: Menard's

unless the product is exclusive to the big box, there are plenty of stores that may be able to get the name brands at a better price.
Carpetone, Flooring America, ect...

Re: Menard's

Im in the Madison WI area and menards beats HD big time, the stuffs on the shelves, place is staffed, and there about 20 % lower then HD for the same item. We dont have a lowes but from the few times I have been in one I would say they would beat the also.

I think the closest Lowes' is Rockford or Delavan, and they are also higher priced than Menards on identical items.

You ever use Brunsell Lumber? Probably not, since they don't carry flooring, but I used to work there.

This is the first time I have ever heard of Menard's. I am from Maryland. They are either solely regional to the midwest, or they havn't made it here yet. We have proboly 70 Home Depots, around 35 or 40 Lowes'....but no Menard's.

Here's their store locations-

I used to work in the hardware dept when I was a teen and have always thought it was a decent place.

Re: Menard's

If I have to send a customer to a large chain store its Menards.... why? Well I've sent to many customers to Lowes and Home Depot and they either try to sell them their installers or the price has the install included. Menards doesn't promote any installer just the product.

Re: Menard's

When comparing like items, Menards will beat HD or Lowes. But it seams like Menards does have many low cost low quality items....and I always shop there with my eyes wide open. In central Iowa there's a Menards less that 1/8th of a mile from a HD. Most of the time HD has 5 or 6 cars, Menards is PACKED!

Regarless, it pays to shop and compare. I'm glad I've got a decent store locally, their staff seem well trained and are helpful...but not too helpful.

Menards is a ****hole with cheap crap. When you see Menards housewrap on a project you know the builder is a cut rate hack.

They are midwest regional.

yes but no. i buy wood for certain jobs from them. like a small addition or a garage. When i build a new home i use a lumber yard. nothing beats having your salesman stop by the site one to two times a day

Re: Menard's

Why would you buy some wood from Menards and some from your yard??

I just pick up the phone and it's there the next day. I assume guys using Menards can't get a credit line at a decent yard and are forced to deal with them.

well i have a great credit line and my three lumberyard accounts are either 0 or close to 0 balance. the reason that maybe is because i can pay my bills..... since i saved over $1000 dollars on a lame 24 x 24 4.5/12 pitch trusses. all i had to do was call manards wannabe a pro desk. they delivered it a day later and then i cut the two foot tails down to one foot. Instock

Re: Menard's

Apples to apples Menards always has better prices,...meaning same brand and model to same brand and model Menards will always be lower. And in my town the employees are always nice, speak to you when you come in and give good service. I only buy the national brand at Menards...NO OFF BRANDS because they SUCK
