Length Of Flooring Nail For Radiant Heat
Im going to be installing 9/16" engineered flooring over 3/4'' plywood with radiant heat stapled below. Does anyone know what length staple to use so it doesnt penetrate the subfloor? I was also contemplating glueing the floor down but I dont know if its the best idea over plywood. Thanks, Jeremy

Test an inch and a quarter staple. I have done 1/2" with 1" staples, but that is the max thickness of flooring for a 1" staple, but it may just work for 9/16, although I have never tested the holding power, with so little going into the substrate.

Re: Length Of Flooring Nail For Radiant Heat
What about glueing it down to the plywood, is that an option? Being a tile man im pretty good at spreading glue, so that may be easier for me. I would also have to purchase a nailer if I have to staple it down, any suggestions on a nailer.

Re: Length Of Flooring Nail For Radiant Heat
Float the engineered flooring, we do radiant heat with hardwood in our homes and we have glued the entire floor down which worked great and have also done a full floating floor which has an underlay put down then we glue each board together, be sure to use a flexible adhesive though.

Test the nails, test it again and then I would recommend to just test the nails using the sample of flooring and sample of the same thickness of the sub floor.
I would actually install 1/2 thick plywood on top of the existing sub floor just to make sure you will not get the radiant heating and the floor nails will hold the floor boards strong enough. hardwood floor hawaii hardwood floors hawaii hardwood flooring hawaii |

Re: Length Of Flooring Nail For Radiant Heat
Ive decided to float the flooring. Im planning on using Floor Muffler underlayment. There are bedrooms below the floor so if you guys know of a better underlayment let me know. Also, what glue do you guys recommend for gluing the boards together.
