Laminate floor Questions Tool and Technique

Guys,

Im thinking about purchasing a Jamb saw, fein, bosch, or other.. didnt decide yet.

When I install laminate flooring, i usually undercut all door jambs and door casings. However, I never cut base mouldings. I always add a shoe moulding after. Caulk, fill, and paint trim color.

How do you guys handle this? Do you guys undercut everything? I have a pretty decent size laminate job coming up soon and would like to purchase a new tool.

What gives a cleaner install ? Shoe or undercut base? Do you think theres more work involved with a shoe moulding? Or More work undercutting bases?

thanks for your opinions

Crain Jamb Saw

Remove base & reinstall if at all possible - Old house with 9" molding in place, undercut

I can't stand shoe - IMHO it looks cheap & tacky

I'm with SLSTech whenever possible I remove and reinstall the base. Shoe molding looks terrible and would be my last choice.

To answer the OP: we under cut casing and jamb, remove and reinstall base.

removing the base isnt really an option, its a very old home with large base. I'll do more damage removing. I must mention that this is a flip home, so basically anything within reason goes. We have a budget to work with.

Basically, what i really wanted to know is ... undercutting bases actually saves time & money VS shoe. If it does... it will be the reason for the purchase. If you think it takes more time, please say.

What do you guys think?

Fastest, least expenisve option is shoe. Not pretty but gets you where you want to go.
