So, What did you end up doing? All the other BS aside, I hope you took some of the advice offered up here and did the right thing. Quit with the school yard crap and get back to the point.

Think about how bad that HO can screw you in court if you put him out of his house until he finds someone else.

Get that customer on paper now! with terms you can both live with.

Bob
Glass is right. If you walk and the HO has to hire a legit tile guy (you can bet it will be the most expensive) to finish the job, you can be held liable and have to pay the other tile guy for the job. We'll be seeing your house listed in "Sheriff Sale" for not paying your mortgage. You are being played by the HO.

Re: Job Problem

No offense, but this kind of thing steams me. Remodelman, you're not doing ANYONE any favors, least of all yourself or the homeowner. You devalue the work to the point that it's impossible to give a GOOD quality job to anyone who hears about your prices. You're not doing yourself any favors bending over every time a customer asks you to, because then you end up in the position you're in now-- They know they can take advantage of you, and believe me, they're gonna ride this pony as long as they can. You end up feeling taken advantage of, they get either a tile guy that walks out on a half finished job, or a poor quality installation (either way, it's a black eye on the industry), and it's already bad enough where everyone seems to be looking only at the bottom line.

You're in it, now, and there's no turning back. Finish the damn thing and be done with it. You've got no contract or agreement in writing, so you don't have a leg to stand on legally. As someone's already pointed out, if you walk now, and it's ANY kind of inconvenience, you're gonna find your a$$ in front of a judge who's gonna be sittin there with a big jar of vasoline for you. Suck it up, finish the job, and learn from the experience.

YOU DON'T WANT TO WORK FOR PEOPLE THAT WANT SOMETHING FOR NOTHING, AND IF THAT'S WHAT YOU SEEM TO BE OFFERING, THAT'S ALL THE KIND OF JOBS YOU'RE GONNA FIND!!!

Re: Job Problem

I just did their neighbors house who referred them to me for my dedicated work and trustworthiness.

Hey this is your mistake. I think you are tricking yourself. Although this qoute may be true in every way, I believe the truth is the neighbors told them that they had a guy do their job for them and he did a good job and he is really CHEAP!! My dad has always said you don't want a "cheap reputation".
That spreads like a wild fire. Dont be afraid to charge for things. Ask yourself, "If I wanted a new shingle roof on my house, and had to hire someone, would there be any way in hell that they would tear off the old shingles and haul them off and patch parts of the old decking for free"? That would be like a miracle, and then say; "Well out of 7 guys I took a bid on I did have one that did all that stuff for free". Now with that being said, would you want this guy. My mind would start wondering about him, and my confidence level would be very low. But if I had a guy that gave me a written proposal on the job and was very confident in charging me and stern about his pricing when he came out, I would feel like I could go to Hawaii the whole week they were doing my house; but if I hired the "bad guy", I would be watching every moved he made....Do you catch my drift? I dont know, maybe this will help you in the future. But I'm trying to put you in the place of the customer, and the contractor. Look very close at both sides of the fence. Try to visualize each aspect of this situation and put yourself in the consumers shoes and try to figure out a reason this is happening. Also would this be happening to anyone else if they were doing this job?
