Sage you are misreading his post. He didn't do this job at a reduced rate. He actually increased his rates from $1.50 sq/ft to $2.00 sq/ft. This wasn't a "charity gig" this was a normal job that he actually charged more than he normally does for!

Damn, actually it does get even better I missed all of this -

Lanai Space 450 sq ft - vertical tile pattern with half tile border
1400 sq ft Total
Even better! A pattern with a border and an inset diagonal!

Quote:
1/4 Round strip install No Charge
Toilet Removal/Replace - No Charge
Dump Fees: No Charge
and of course the signature of every troll once he lays out the bait... the setting of the hook -

Just for laughs how much would you all charge for this?

Mike I went back and read the original post. I think he is doing it for $1.50 less than his normal charge, but $.50 more than he charged his neighbors. And threw in all kinds of other ********************. Am I still off? That's how it sounded to me anyway.

To prove it, all GCs here please tell us the normal rates you see from a tiling sub for installing 12x12 ceramic tile in a grid pattern.

Then let's talk about what 20x20 porcelain on a diagonal insert with a border would cost, including all the demo and prep.

Like I said, if this guy is actually for real, he is 1 in a million and no doubt an unlicensed, un-insured at best jack-legger living hand to mouth at best and blaming everybody else for him being the whore.

Here are the specs:

Living Space 950 sq ft -vertical tile pattern
Lanai Space 450 sq ft - vertical tile pattern with half tile border
1400 sq ft Total
2.00 sq ft $2800
$2800 divided by 1400 sq/ft = $2.00 sq ft.

.50 cents more than his normal charges of $1.50 sq/ft, and as he said minus his gas, his dump charges and a new chisel(?) whatever that was supposed to mean.

Just another contractor who is learning a quick lesson (harsh as it may be) on the economics of a job and contracting law.
BTW, RemodelingMan is not in Mike's hood, he's typing away somewhere around Tampa, Fla.

Re: Job Problem

You have already taken a faiamount of guff for this but I think I am gonna add some more.

First off you have no place being "in buisness" if you live hand to mouth enough to have to get money up fron from a job to pay your bills. Unless I am supplying material I never get money up front. If I do its to cover material costs only. My good work always ensures I get paid in the end.

What happens if you screw something in their house up like breaking the oven door while moving it for free. You think they are just gonna let you slide?

Second, please stop whoring yourself at ridicoulously low rates. You bring into suspect every legit installer after you that charges the correct amount.
If you need to lowball that badly to get work and are that concerned about getting paid you may want to consider working for someone else for a bit till you learn a little more.
