Installing Hardwood. Tips And What To Look For....in A Finishing Contractor?

As seen under my name, I'm a roofing and siding contractor.

I purchased a home and some hardwood flooring as a project house and am going to be doing the flooring this summer.

The home, is rather old. Early 1900's and I've gotten everything as flat as it's going to get.

There are some low spots here, and there, mostly on the 2nd floor.

I have purchased some hardwood, 3/4" T/G flooring that was removed from a ware house. It's in respectable condition, but will have to be installed, sanded and finished.

When filling in the low spots....I've read here on the boards that some people just use SAND? I was planning on using a floor leveling compound.

I'm looking for a top notch finish. I'll be getting estimate to sand, and finish the floor from other contractors as I'm just not comfortable doing that myself. What are some things I'll be looking at from a contractor? Not really even looking for customer references because I've looked at roofs that the home owners praised the roofer, and found so many problems.

Thanks for any tips....and insight!

Use shingles in low spots, works good.

Don't use leveling compound under a nail down wood floor.

Build up the low areas with thin plywood, roll roofing, shingles and layers of asphalt roofing felt.
