Installing Bamboo Floors

I recently installed a 1600 sq ft carbonized vertical bamboo in a townhouse. About a month later the customer calls back and says she needs some repairs to be done. I order another box from the same supplier and the dylot is completely off. My original floor has a brown tone and the new wood they gave me had a orange tint to it. Completely off .. The Bamboo company is now telling me that they switch suppliers and can not match the same dylot. Anybody have any suggestions?

These things happen. There are dye lot differences that will cause this and when supplier change, as they do with many major companies that don't make their own product, you'll be stuck in such a situation. Usually within a month I would think there is a decent chance they could find the same dye lot for you though, unless they go through huge quantities of this stuff. If you can get them to tell you who the supplier was maybe you can find a source for it.

This happens with all wood flooring, laminates too. Cleaning and sun bleaching can also complicate matters. Unfortunately there is little that you can do.

gogreen,

You had too little left over from the original installation?

I've done this when I've been too cheap to buy that extra box, and have had one or two pieces left by the time I'm done.

Typically when I sell a job, I mention to the HO that it's good to have extra flooring when the job is done, just in case something happens down the road. Especially when it's a wood floor.

Of course, hindsight is 20/20, and it's easy for me to tell you this from the comfort of my reclining desk chair.

Hopefully it turns out well.
