Info On Bruce Plano Strip

I came across some Plano strip (color is Marsh). After researching it, seems to be a Home Depot bargain material w/ a Bruce 5yr warranty (5 years that is!). there typical warranty ranges from 15-25 years.

Can anyone comment on the actual differences resulting in a 5yr vs a 15, 20 or 25yr? My guess would be the layers of poly on top and composition of the poly. The Plano is a microbevel (square edge I think)-would it be advisable to install, sand down the finish and restain/poly? The environment is a large familyroom/kitchen (not around sink) so wear will be high.

Have you guys had good luck mixing woods lines when sanding it down to refinish? For instance, mixing in a wider plank (4, 6 and 8") in with some strip and sanding it all down to stain at once? I'm asking b/c I've considered the possibility of mixing sizes to simulate a walkway through the large open area of strip flooring.

Re: Info On Bruce Plano Strip

I just purchased this to install in a reno project that I am working on. I got a great deal at 1.50 sq ft. I have layed about 300 sq ft so far and it looks ok. Much better than I would expect out of cheap engineered. If you get a good floor refinisher in you could prob redo this floor one time, We put this in for the bang for the buck. hardwood at the price of laminate. if there is not going to be alot of use, i think you can get away with it for a while. You do have to pick throught he pieces as some are discolored as I came across, I just went and picked up 10 percent more and wrote it to the cost of the flooring. I would put it in my house. But we never stay very long before we sell. If you take care of it i dont see it being a prob anytime soon.
