hole in the floor
pulled out old gas floor furnace and needto fill 2x3 rectangle in middle of hall. refinishing entire house,looking for laying ideas, that doens't involve matting to old wood. design ideas needed

Line the perimeter of the hole with a contrasting hardwood, and fill in with something like a herringbone pattern... Make it look like a "rug".

If there is a closet or small room with same flooring, pull it, install in hallway, & redo closet.
