Hardwood sales newbie: question regarding commission

I have recently moved from doing service on (mostly) prefinished hardwood floors into wide plank hardwood sales. I am paid a fair hourly wage, I believe; comparable to staff installers. My boss has told me that he will pay me a % commission on top of the hourly wage, and has asked me to tell him what I think is fair. well.. this is my first sales experience. I'm involved in every aspect of projects from the initial call to the last, and everything in between. Measure, prepare quotes, order wood, schedule, make frequent jobsite visits, quality control, post job service and follow-up, invoicing.. you name it. I kick some serious butt when it comes to customer service, and it shows (I've been doing the job for several months now). The boss has been able to cut his time involved in wide plank to a low # of hours, and this has allowed him to expand the business in other ways.

So.. how the heck to I determine a fair commission?

I believe the local Flooring stores here are paying anywhere from 7-10% on the total order. Good luck to you....

7% for a full 40% mark sound nifty if you get hourly or salary on top of it.

I would go for 10% minimum. Thats $100 for every $1000.
