Hardwood Floors

I had a guy say he wanted me to put down a floating hardwood floor that was prefinished. He said he was getting it from Lowes, I haven't had time to go look and see what they were talking about, you guys know anything about it? Got any tips or horror stories. Thanks.

Re: Hardwood Floors

Don't let ANY customer supply the materials.

You'll be telling your own horror stories if you do.

Re: Hardwood Floors

Tip- If you don't know what it is, don't put it down, and get a floor guy to do it.

As for horror stories, yeah if not put down correctly (for various reason) it will fail, and will have to be replaced.

Re: Hardwood Floors

I've done alot of floors for homedepot with that type of product and it's not that bad. One tip is that when you use a tapping block .... don't lip on the edges ... because the finish on the top section of hardword (bout 1/8" is fragile on the edges and will chip and crack ... good luck bud.

Re: Hardwood Floors

If it's a name-brand product, read the instructions carefully and go for it. I've installed (and seen installed) a number of laminated, real wood floors and they usually come out beautifully.

Re: Hardwood Floors

if you can help it try not to use a tapping block. tapping blocks were for pergo when it first came out. all the products out today are snap lock. I install alot of laminate flooring to offset inbetween tile jobs.
each product has its own technique once you find it it goes in easy.

I often find that if i lock the end of the board to the previous one in the row then set it down and put the oposite end in the gruve then work my way back it goes in alot easyer ( sorry for the vagueness i havnt had coffee yet thismorning)

laminate flooring cannot go over rollercoaster floors. it will sound overly hollow and over time (couple days ) walking on it with uneven ground underneath it will break the snaplock joints and it will flap like fence boards when walked on. so make sure you float your floors
