Question

Hardwood Flooring Install, Little Help.

Hello, we will be installing engineering hardwood flooring for one of our clients this coming up week and in the past we have always done the installation perpendicular to the joists. I was just wondering is that what everyone else does? There is sub-flooring already installed so I'm just trying to see the experts opinions on this matter. It is only our 3rd installation of hardwood.

Thanks!

What is the subfloor assembly? Rule of thumb is perpendicular to joists, but there are some instances where it doesn't matter. Need more info.

Re: Hardwood Flooring Install, Little Help.

The hardwood will be installed on the second floor of the home within the Master Bedroom and the house was built in the Mid 70's. The subfloor is 1/2 inch plywood nailed in. The size of the room is about 14' Wide and 17' in Length. Hopefully this helps but if it doesn't let me know what else I can expand on and I will try my best.

Thank you

If that truly is a 1/2" subfloor (which I doubt....it would be a trampoline) you need another layer of 3/4 on it first. Laid perpendicular to the first, then you can install the hardwood any direction the home owner prefers. What is this 1/2" material? Plywood, or PB?

Never seen T&G 1/2" subfloor??

Sounds like you need more beef in the substrate.
