Hardwood Chatter
what is the best way of dealing with the chatter problem? tiny ripples left from the belt and drum sanders?

Re: Hardwood Chatter
Are you doing this yourself with a large rental sander? Or did the contractor leave this behind? is the floor still raw?

Re: Hardwood Chatter
If this is happening on multiple machines I would say it is probably the man standing behind it scenario...Take then to a good repair shop and have them serviced..$$$$$..

Re: Hardwood Chatter
Depends on the type of machine..
if it is a typical drum sander, bearings, belts, and wheels, as well the drum itself must be in proper working order.. keeping the machine clean and free of excessive dust build is important. a belt sander will chatter under similar circumstances, but most often when you see chatter, there is something stuck in the drum, like a staple.. in a drum sander, its the break in the paper that also effects to cut of the machine. |

Re: Hardwood Chatter
Check the tension of the drive belt and the sander. Our floor guy will disengage the machine, turn it on, and adjust the tension until no vibrations or coarse noises can be heard.
This might sound weird in words but makes sense in person. The machine we use is a Lagler-hummel |

Re: Hardwood Chatter
The Drum may also need re-balanced or re-covered. As Joining_heads mentioned, try the tension adjustments and also make sure your paper is on the drum tight or try slowing down your pace.
I also use a 12" belt Lagler-hummel. Sweet Machine! Ron T |
