Hardibacker Over Linoleum

I conducted a search and didnt find any info

I am remodeling a house right now and the homeowner has decided to sub out the tile flooring themselves which is fine I am plenty involved in what I am doing to worry about it. The tile guys started laying hardibacker down yesterday in the kitchen and living room and there where a few things that struck me as being kind of odd.

1) they laid the hardibacker over linoleum flooring (the worker explained that the linoleum was glued to the subfloor with no underlayment)
2) they never applied thinset under the hardibacker?!!??

I am just curious if this is a normal practice,or a proper procedure?

Make sure the ho knows (in writing) you're not responsible for failure of the tile.

Re: Hardibacker Over Linoleum

As long as they screwed it down the linoleum isn't an issue, that is as long as it isn't that spongy stuff, they should have used thinset.

Why would you bother about being responsible for the tile if he is subbing it out?
