Grout Recoloring

Does the stuff to recolor grout really work? I have a customer that wants to do this in their kitchen. The grout is a charcoal/delorian gray. The want sandstone/camel color. I have never used the stuff just seen it before and thought it wasn't worth a . Any advice is appreciated.

Re: Grout Recoloring

Ive done several jobs with it and it works great. It stains the grout and seals it all in one move. I charge 1.50 a foot and can do 300 sq ft in about two hours.

I agree. Especially with Aquamix's colorant, it's a one part epoxy base that's tough as nails. The first colorant job I did was about 4 years ago, and I know for sure it's still in good condition, because it was at a Rite-Aid right down the street from where I live, so I see it all the time.

I agree, Aquamix is works very well, we use it all the time, light color colorants will require a few coats until it changes, i would only reccomend to use it to recolor but not to change a grout color.

Re: Grout Recoloring

I disagree. I've used it several times to change color with good results.

Re: Grout Recoloring

Bill, so going from delorean grey to sandstone/camel should only take one coat? What if it gets on the tile? Do you have to wipe it up right away? Thanks for the feedback fellas.

Re: Grout Recoloring

At most, it might take two coats. I've yet to have to go any further than that.

As for getting it on the tiles, that's not a problem, either. You're EXPECTED to get it on the tile. Here- read reply #2 of the following thread. If you look at the dates, you'll se this was a good while ago, and it's since changed the way I look at colorants, as you'll see from reply #1:

Re: Grout Recoloring

Then she's got only one recourse-- score out all the grout. Neither colorant, nor enhancing sealer will stick to the paint.
