Grout In Corner Of Tile Shower

Hello!

I'm planning on repairing a cracked grout line in the corner of a shower for a family member. Looks like the subcontractor for the GC used grout instead of a silicone.

To do this, I was planning on using my oscillating saw to remove some of the grout and create a gap for the silicone.

Is that the correct way of going about this?

Thanks in advance!

Andrew

Yes
Always sanded silicone in corners
And yes use multitool to remove grout and cheap grout saw

if you're going to use a multitool to remove the grout in the corners, don't go too deep and penetrate the layer of waterproofing. That could potentially be a worse problem in the future than cracked grout with a functioning waterproofed wall or pan.

Re: Grout In Corner Of Tile Shower

I would manually pick as much of the wayward grout out as possible. Even using a hammer and spike to knock it loose. Breaking it out is less likely to do damage, vs a power tool. Assuming it is already coming loose, which is why it needs replacement.

Then put masking tape to protect the tile and go at it with a multi-tool.
