Good Ceramic Slide Cutter
I'm looking at getting a new slide cutter or hand cutter so i don't have to drag the wet saw out for small jobs. Does anyone have a good review on any particular one that they like? I would like to get a nice one so it cuts good and also will last. Thanks

Re: Good Ceramic Slide Cutter
I think it is a matter of choice, the guys I started with all used Superior, but I see guys that like the clinker or rubi type too.
I personally like the Superior Size #1, for most jobs, but it is not big enough for some walls and most floors, so having a larger one also may come in handy. If my superior doesn't cut it, I just use the wet saw. |

Re: Good Ceramic Slide Cutter
Thanks guys. Those are nice cutters. I was looking and there are alot of differnet models of rubi cutters. I have a wet saw for big jobs and complex cuts, just want a hand cutter for small jobs when it's not practicle to bring out the wet saw. Is there one model that you would recomend? Don't do much work bigger than 16" tiles.

Re: Good Ceramic Slide Cutter
There are two major "camps" when it comes to "high-end" scoring cutters...you've heard from one of them, so far.
The other "name" to look at is "Sigma"... I've never used a "Rubi" so I can't really comment on them. The guy I learned the trade from owned a couple of diferent sized "Sigma's" (as well as a small "Superior", which he only used on backsplash jobs); for flooring tile, he swore by his Sigma's, up and down. When I got into tile setting (years ago) this was my first major purchase; I've since bought a larger one as well, (and a "Target" wet saw, and a portable (7") "MK", Roberts Jambsaw,...and...and ).After more than ten years in service, the first "Sigma" I purchased still cuts as clean and true as the day that I bought it. Prior to committing, do yourself a favor and check out "Sigma" cutters as well...you might like what you see... Just my two cents... Cheers, Ron |
