Glue and staple engineered wood on stair treads?

Sorry to intrude on the pro forum again, but the diy arm has once again not provided an answer. Please humor me.

I installed a 5" Mannington engineered hickory floor a few years ago, and am now going to use the same product for the stairs to my basement that I've almost completed finishing. The initial installation was a staple down job using the SpotNails stapler they recommend. However, I'm thinking it will make for more solid stairs and nosings if I trowel on some wood adhesive for the tread installation. Is there any reason to not use glue AND staples? I want to avoid top nailing, so the combination seems like the best way to ensure the planks stay in place while the bond sets. Mannington does not provide instructions for a stair installation.

Also, what's your preferred trowel grade adhesive? Mannington recommends their difficult to find house brand, but that strikes me the same as when a paint manufacturers recommends their water-based primer, even when everyone knows there are better primers available.

Thanks.
