Floor Joist

Hello Everyone,

I'm in the process of installing a hardwood floor and when I checked the floor to see if it was even(8' straight edge). I noticed that one of the joist was crowned by 1/2" at it's lowest point. I decided to pull the plywood out and see where the problem was. Although the crown is not really that bad...it will pose problems with hardwood installation.

My question is: Since the joist is made or 2x10 lumber...Can I simply take a 2x6 or 2x4 and screw it to the crowned 2x10? Do I have to screw the new lumber on both sides of the crowned joist? Does the lumber have to span the length of the crowned joist(not structual), or can I fasten the new lumber around the damaged area?

Thanks,
