Dustless Sanding Or Traditional Way
I think I've been out bid by these dustless floor sanding companies. Their prices are way low and they can be in and out quicker then me. What are the pros and cons of these newer systems. What are they sealing it with that they can be completed in a day or two?

Re: Dustless Sanding Or Traditional Way
You pretty much said it all. Dustless, quicker and cheaper. Hard to compete with that. I have yet to see it in person but there's a gel sealer I've heard about. I actually contracted a sub to use that because he said it would be dry to the touch in an hour with no smell. Walkable in a day. However, he never showed up and I was out of the house for 3 days waiting for the urethane to dry

Re: Dustless Sanding Or Traditional Way
dust free (not completely) is the only way to go. The number one complaint from the lady of the house is the dust. There are several sealers on the market that will dry and can re-coat in one hour. If you use waterborne urethane you can put down a sealer and two coats of poly in one day on a small job, 500 to 1000 feet.with a good two man crew. The dust free systems are the way of the future and if you are going to compete you had better get one. I have been using them for years now and would not go back for anything. If your getting outbid it is probably not because of the dust free system because I started charging more and getting it with mine because if the added benefits to the customer.

Re: Dustless Sanding Or Traditional Way
Dust free???? OK, Are they using a DCS, on there machines when they take it back down to bare wood, Or are they just top coating(recoat)????
Basic Coatings has the TyKote system. This is not a take it back to bare wood system. It is just for recoats. It does nothing for big gouges or sandable damage. You may want to look into the TyKote system, and compete with them on an apples to apples service.
