Doing Work For Flooring Store

The guy that owns the flooring store that I buy most of my stuff from calls me up today and asks me if I'd be interested in doing some installs for him. He's a great guy and I can always use the extra work, but he pays about half/sq.ft. than I make on my own customers. Granted, I don't have to look for work, but that's a big cut in pay. I told him I'd start with one and see how it goes, but could only accept his jobs if I've got nothing else on the go. He understands fully and doesn't have a problem with that. Maybe I could generate some good leads..what would you guys do?

Well I don't know. You could stay home and watch Jerry Springer.

Negotiate a better price with him, if he called you he is in need of an installer!!!! You have the upper hand.

Yes, I agree with this one. The contractor can charge a higher price to accomodate for your higher rates, but you need to be able to deliver service and value to HIS customers.

I have subs that name their price to me because they are WORTH EVERY PENNY. They make me money, make me look good, and don't when the going gets tough on some of these jobs.

The ball bounces both ways. Do not steal his client base. If some H.O. asks you to do something on the side, ask the contractor permission first. This is what integrity is all about.

Probably too late but I'd tell him thanks but no. Those companies can't keep contractors because the contractors get wise and raise their prices. But, again, you're wise not to burn any bridges unless you have no other choice.
