Damaged Wood Floors

The appliances were delivered and installed today on a project and the wheels dug in causing indentations in the heart pine floors. I want to try and steam them out a bit before the last coat of poly. It is my first time steaming floors, I have done it on furniture and small projects at home. I am looking for hints and things to avoid

Re: Damaged Wood Floors

I love sears guys;they do it all the time and pay me right away!
Being pine there is a chance may be corrected, but I suggest putting a claim to the delivery people(more than you charge your client) and refinish again.

Re: Damaged Wood Floors

Steaming could work depending on how deep it goes.
Used to do it all the time with wood doors.
I used a steam iron after soaking an old shirt in water and putting it over the wood and using the iron.
Worked damn well.

Re: Damaged Wood Floors

With pine you might be able to steam it out. depends on the depth and length. It ain't retarded if it works.

I agree. Retard button is funny, however it does not apply with this post.

Re: Damaged Wood Floors

Hi.
I would like to know what is the exact proces of steaming. I undertood this help to fix the minor dents or scraches. I have never used it. I make sure I tell my clients to tell everybody do not scrach the floor.
and then I tell the clients again do not creach the floor.
Then it is scrached I refinish it again if needed.
Thanks

Re: Damaged Wood Floors

Steaming is usually a process used to clean or refinish the floors.

Once the woods finish (a scratch) occurs steaming is usually not an option. The water from the steamer may cause damage or introduce unwanted moisture to the wood.

This has always been my take on it. I am wrong quite often though

It raises the grains back to their natural states.

But I don't believe it will work here.

I do like the retard button idea though.
