Re: Crane Floor Cutter Things
I own one and use it often .
Go slow, dont force it and keep it flush and it wont kick back on you. Its like anything else, it takes a few uses to get use to. I left the shroud on mine and I just tape off the toe kick when its finished wood |

Re: Crane Floor Cutter Things
I am so flipping nervous when I use this tool. It kicks back everytime. It may be user error. Still, they should design a different handle configuration.

I'd heard about other people doing it, so I knew about it already and also knew the notorious stories about it. I held that thing with a death grip the whole time, scared the crap out of me. Wouldn't ever want to do it again.

Re: Crane Floor Cutter Things
I see one problem right there - starting off nervous tends to make one bunch up, fight the machine, etc... which can lead to the issues you are trying to prevent. Should one have a healthy respect for it or any other tool - yes & quite simply let the machine do the work - don't fight it or try pushing it through at warp speed

If your worried about getting hurt by power tools , maybe your in the wrong business OR go oldschool with a hammer & chisel.

Re: Crane Floor Cutter Things
That toe-kick saw right there is by far the most dangerous tool I have ever had in my hands. I don't care how careful you think you are being that little bastard will try to reconfigure your body parts at every opportunity. Mine now stays home in my garage so that my guys won't try to use it. I am the only one that I will consider using that sucker and even then only in extreme cases. Those things are made in Islam.

Re: Crane Floor Cutter Things
Have you tried a Bosch roto zip with the zip mate. I have used it many a time to trim baseboards flush and cut out old flooring from infront of kicthen and bathroom cabinets. Has many uses other than this and has almost unlimited ajustment angles.

Re: Crane Floor Cutter Things
I drove my foreman to the hospital today because a craftmen box cutter got dropped on his hand while open with a new blade. It stabbed him right in the middle of the top his hand , 6 stitches.
I will never make smartass safety comments again. |

Re: Crane Floor Cutter Things
Everytime I use a saw in this application,I lock my elbow, and stand clear.
First time I tried this, cutting old ply out next to a tub,I jerry-rigged my biscut cutter. Pulled off the guard, maxed the blade to the outside, plunged it into floor. Worked good for a couple secs. Got brave, tried running it along a line.OOPS!!!! Had to drive myself to the hospital. My nurse was the owner of roof I was to start the next day. After 20 stitches in my thigh, she figured I be a couple of days late on her project.

Re: Crane Floor Cutter ThingsQuote:
I dont know what blade i have in mine but i have zero kick back. I can do about 400-500LF of baseboard before the blade is done. But boy does it cut fast. The blade looks like a cross between a diamond blade and wood blade. |
