I had to repair a job that was glued on wrong, and I just charged by the hour.

No one can tell you what you have to charge.

We charge by the lineal foot - labour only.

The customer pays for base and adhesives.

.80 per LF is what I quote.

Oskoo, I'm gonna pick on you friend.

This is a prime example of what our industry is not doing well or even fails to understand.

First of all, define the term "going rate", please.

Use the commodity gasoline as your example and please help us to understand what you're really asking.

And please consider this... there is no such thing as a going rate. There is an average price, there is the highest price, and then there is the lowest price, but nothing ever that I have ever seen, heard, read, or had signed to me in American Sign Language said, "The going rate for the following is this much."

Now, just because two people here say eighty cents per lineal foot, that doesn't mean you can charge that, or should charge it. Charge what you need to charge to stay in business, make a profit, pay your taxes and bills, save for retirement, take a vacation, replace worn out equipment, etc. Don't charge what others charge, because in most cases, they asked a bunch of strangers on a web site, or the old farts at the coffee shop that used to do this kind of work back in the CCC.

Know your business, run your business and be in your business or go work for someone that does. The rest of the folks that are trying hard to make a living will thank you for it.
