Yes they did. My wife and I are very satisfied. The installer made it look real easy. It seems that the grout they use is a bit easier to work with than normal grout. It has a very creamy consistancy. Watching him do the kitchen made me feel like I could tackle our basement bathroom, however I'm sure it's harder than it looks.

Thanks

Rob

Re: Congolium Duraceramic

Did a job almost 2 years ago with Dura Ceramic, owner has a Great Dane doggy. According to her it still looks new. Did another kitchen this month(another Great Dane lover) and expect no problems. 3 jobs total, no grout on any install. Everyone loves it so far.

Re: Congolium Duraceramic

Dont put Duraceramic over hardibacker, use a 1/4" birch, or similar type underlayment such as what you use for vinyl flooring. NEVER go over existing vinyl. It always leads to problems. Smooth clean, flat concrete is always good too

Re: Congolium Duraceramic

Couple more tips:
Duraceramic is a better product than Durastone due to the edges. Durastone will have a tendency to chip/flake at the corners and it not as reaslistic looking as duraceramic.
Also, if you want bigger grout lines use Tavvy spacers as someone suggested. I only use tavvy spacers for all tile work anyway. But I would not use any spacers and but edge to edge. The tiles have beveled edges so just fill the gully with grout and you get a nice clean small grout line. Looks beautiful. The installation will be much faster and look much better.

I concur. Proper prep is the key words though. I skim with Ardex Featherfinish if I am going over vinyl. I has to be in great shape though or I pull it.

Re: Congolium Duraceramic

Heres the problem...without tearing up the entire floor you truly never know how well bonded the vinyl is in ALL of the areas. So regardless of mftr warranties, if it fails it will ALWAYS be your fault because they will say the vinyl wasnt properly bonded/prepped.
Another problem is when your setting the tiles and you notice a chip or sratch or something and have to lift the tile to put a new one, the vinyl always pulls up with it lifting from its underlayment and the congoleum glue globs off and you have to do annoying stuff to get it back right.
I will never go over vinyl with basically anything, always could be problems.

Re: Congolium Duraceramic

I would love to live by those rules too but I am a sub the works for retailers.

Be it a cost issue or a height issue, sometimes we just cant do a subfloor.

There are many ways of checking an old vinyl for proper adhesion, loose edges can be cut away and filled ect.

I use Ardex feather finish too and even scratch up the surface with my buffer and rough grit sandpaper or a belt sander. Followed up with a latex floor primer

I will say that its best left up to a pro.

Mike:
I work for some retailers too and you are correct on what you say; if they do the measure and dont price for rip out because they want to sell the job and not raise the price. Your stuck. I had that exact problem 3 months ago with a dura-stone like product made by mannington. On this one i ate the cost, used some multiply and called the store and told them i dont want to do any more jobs over vinyl, its risky. In reality i cant carry my buffer everywhere i go for a just in case scenario. Becuase without it, it seems the ardex/levelor never sticks well to the vinyl.

Re: Congolium Duraceramic

When I cant grind or sand (some people have a thing about dust...go figure)
I have been using self leveling primer or use plani patch with the additive.

Been working pretty well.

You are right, its so important to have a total bond with the new luxery tiles and planks.

I am so looking foward to next Monday when I get to stick 1800 ft of Metroflor Tiles to a new slab.

Re: Congolium Duraceramic

Was reading through here and .... not sure where duraceramic got tied in with VCT or Vinyl ..... from my understanding it only installs like VCT if you are not grouting ... Duraceramic is a limestone composite tile Very much like VCT but not Vinyl Composite
