Chinese Floors

I'd love feedback on Chinese manufactured flooring. I've seen some FANTASTIC solid hardwood, as well as decent snap together Pergo-esque flooring.

Anyone using any? What are you paying per square foot?

I ask as I used to live in China, my wife is Taiwanese, and I've often thought about bringing in a container.

I definitely have th cntacts for that... just don't know the qualities, etc.

Re: Chinese Floors

I havent heard or seen any kind of "Chinese" flooring. Even if it was the greatest flooring on the planet and cheap as dirt I would choose an American made floor just on principle!

Re: Chinese Floors

We've dealt with some import material from China. While most of what we sell in American Oak, the Chinese stuff has it's place in the market. It is cheaper, but it has drawbacks. All of what I've seen tends to come in shorter sections and have more knots in it. Manufacturing quality varies by company. We get it through one of out normal distributors. I wouldn't use it myself unless it were a better grade that what I've seen so far. Of course if you get a good grade of Chinese flooring it'll probably cost as much if not more than domestic stuff.

Re: Chinese Floors

I installed some a few years ago. Had to send it all to a local millwork to have it planed and all of the T&G re-cut, no way was it going down as recieved.

Re: Chinese Floors

I've installed a "American Maple" and a Heart Pine (2 different jobs but for the same carpet store) that were Chinese made wood. ,Crappy, stuff. I hope they really saved big money on that cause it was not worth much IMO. It was not milled even. The Maple was to be a 3" and a 4" everyother patterned floor. There was at least an 1/8" to a 1/4" difference in height. The finish on both were really "thin". It would scratch easier than anyother pre-finished floors I have ever put down...

If you can, I would stay away....................

Re: Chinese Floors

Not to knock the Chinese or anything, but products like this coming out of Chinese factories are meant to be high production budget products. That's the whole point in having them made there and importing them.

Absolutly, Buy American We do enough for these foreign countries. What about the americans that work at the flooring manufacturers here that are going to eventualy loose their jobs because unloyal people are buying this chinese crap just to put an extra buck in their pocket? I specialized in hardwood flooring install / refinish / everything now these asians come in and do a floor pennies on the dollar. I don't even see how they can survive on that kind of pay (Refinish job asian = .50 per ft. everyone else 2.00- 3.00 per foot. They are ruining the economy around here!!

Re: Chinese Floors

P.S. That's why I had to expand to full remodels. I'm not prejudice but I would never hire anyone for .50 per ft. for a refinish you just know the jobs going to be crap.

I hired a crew from Dorchester about 8 years ago to refinish 660sf of fir flooring in my house. They used their edger to make big divots where there were little scratches. With the high gloss finish I could only cry and redo the job myself. The comapany owner (the only one who spoke english) came out to inspect the work and said that they would redo the job for free---I did not want to know how they were planning on repairing 1/4" divots.

Re: Chinese Floors

Buy American or European... (of course, if you buy from Americans it is possible that one of the employees of that company will have money do pay you do do their floor)...

The Chineese aren't so adept at UV curing the coating on the floors yet. Also... does anyone want to guess what happens to wood planks that ride in a hot container for 6 weeks in a humid environment?
