Carpet and hardwood

Ok, the young buck needs some help from some of you seasoned pro's.

I have a customer that wants the carpet from a hallway pulled and install 2 1/4" strip bruce ... that's not the problem. He wants that carpet which is nearly new spliced into a bedrooms floor that has a stain in it .... the reminent is big enough to go from wall to wall and wall to about 5' in ... plenty enough to cover the stain but i'm not at all familiar with carpet install ... and also his stairs where done with hardwood and a 2' strip of carpet up the center ... and he wants to keep that look up top and use no transitions ... any suggestions?

Find yourself a carpet guy to seam on and re-stretch in the room, thats really an easy one. As far as the hall goes...Just to clarify, the HO wants a 2' strip of carpet up the middle of the hall with hardwood down the sides correct? What is the thickness of the material being used? How thick/what type of carpet is being used? It is possible to do sans transitions by having a nice straight, smooth cut where the two will meet. With that done the carpet can simply be tucked to the wood edge.

No, the whole hall is getting 3/4" hardwood .... but the stairs come up to the hall and have hardwood steps with a 2' strip of carpet in the center.

I design and manufacture my own transitions to meet the application. Any decent woodworker should be able to fill this bill.

Just curious - How did you wind up fastening the runner down on the stairs ?

The runner was already there and installed at the time of the home's build. The runner on the stairs went into full carpeting on the top of the stairs in the hallway. That is what I pulled up. So on the top step there is a 2' x 1' peice with the newly installed hardwood surrounding it on three sides.
