Question Carpet Disposal

Hi, I'm new here, trying to get in on the online resource for the carpeting trade for our recycling business. For those of you who work with removing old carpet and installing new carpet .. may I ask how you dispose of the old carpet and what it costs you to do so? Thanks in advance.

Nice...... I hope I'm not your neighbor!

I have several ways....

The match method......don't get caught! Big Fines.

The ground cover method......great for covering those nasty brown dog unine spots!

Sell it to the poorer clients as "remainded"!

Steam clean, bleach and install in rental units!

Basically

Basically we are trying to make it so that giving it to us to recycle is cheaper than dumping it. Any information is appreciated.

I don't know if you can make it any cheaper than it is by just setting it out at the curb...unless of course, you are willing to rip it up as well.

Right now being green is not the cheaper option.
No weight limit, only size limit on trucks.
A big truck or van gets weighed.

Good luck to ya.

Here, the trash hauler for each homeowner will take it,if it is cut to a 3 foot width and put at the curb.

You could consider doing what the scrap metal guys do, Give em a discounted, or even free dumpster to put at their shop, and when it's full, just swap it out with an empty. This would only be beneficial to pro carpet installers, or on large jobs, but it could get the concept in motion.

Two more thoughts....

You could offer your service in a manner similar to the www.thebagster.com

You could also try to get the transfer stations to have a dedicated pile for carpet, and pick it up from them for free.

In Mass, I pay $85/ton for carpet disposal, and would like to see cheaper options.

$63/ton here....I'd love to reduce that. Waste Management has been steadily raising prices here for the last two years....used to be $25/ton not all that long ago.

You know that chaps my ass If its cut up and rolled nice and neat, they are told specifically not to take it....they know has been done by a contractor, and the want their extra cream from him having to dump it. I have actually had home owners call up and raise hell with WM because they refused to take it. The h.o. is already paying for their services, but they want blood from the contractor too. Leads to a lot of illegal dumping around here.

The installation would include the removal/disposal of old carpet/pad, moving of furniture, and installation of new carpet/pad. Pretty much everything involved. I got a quote and I want to see if I am in the right ballpark.

Around here curbside pickup is included in the normal trash fee, we just call for a large item pick-up the day before. They will take old appliances and general junk.

They figure including large item pick-ups is cheaper than cleaning up after illegal dumping.
