can you tint sealer on a hardwood floor?

I refinished a hall and kitchen floor. The ho asked if I could go a little darker so it can possibly match the shellacked orange floors in her living room. Can I tint the urethane?

The amber tone to any hardwood that's been down awhile is very hard to match.

so whats the option??? remove sealer and stain? Can I remove the sealer with a chemical since its only been on a week? ho will pay for the extra work. I really think she needs to just do her living room and dinning room. They look like crap compared to the ones I did.

it was covered with vinyl since 1968. found news papers that were used instead of tar or resin paper. would they have used shellac in 68? the whole floor had been refinished at one point. they sanded the chit out of it and didn't bother to remove the quarter round. it rolled up the quarter round about 3/16".

Godd pics of the job..You should of let her know from the get-go that you can't match the old floors..Nobody can.I have been lucky on a few jobs like this playing with stains but usually they aren't even close...You can try a heavy screening of the old floor where it meets the new to take off some of the old ambered finish to help it blend a bit better but a refinish of the rest of the old floors is the way to go...Good luck.

i would have tried to tie the boards together but the tongues were opposite. must have had a wall at one time hence my floor joist scabs. PLUS they were spreading apart real bad. in on spot i had to make a filler piece that went from 0 to 3/8" in a 14" span.
