Brazillian Cherry floors with spots
flooring is not my area of expertise so we hired someone to put in our brazillian cherry floors and i noticed that there are some light spots on some of the pieces. it almost looks like it could be water drops, but the guy who installed them said that was normal with exotic woods. just curious if this is true or if they may actually be water spots under the finish.
Thanks

water turns Braz cherry darker not lighter. The question would be if the light color is defined by the growth and grain of the board, or if it extends beyond the edge of one board into another. If it is on two boards adjacent, then something got on the wood pre-finish, and tile sealer, if tile work was also happening is a common culprit.

Never seen spots on any exotics I work with. And hey, that is mostly what I work with.

I'm not sure exactly what he used i am pretty sure it was water based and not oil based. it was done on site and the finish is satin. the pictures are not the best but hopefully they help. Let me know what you think.
Thanks

Ummm...that is not normal with any wood.
Installer error on the finish.
Kinda scares me an installer would say it's normal.
wow...
Sorry to see you hooked up with the guy, but hopefully he will make it right....

I read somewhere else it could be silica spots in the wood. that they are a natural occurance with lower grades of braz cherry. we went with a lower grade so we could get more variations in color. Do you think it could be that?

we have about 1000 sq' of space done and probably 30 plank are affected. Some next to eachother and some no where near anything else. The floor has been done for about six months and there is some in my sunroom where i never noticed it before, so i am not really sure what thats all about. Any ideas?

As said before, silica. The manufacturer should replace those boards, no questions asked, you will have to provide the labor.

I think the real question is what sealer was used before applying finishes...

I wonder if something that has a uv blocking characteristic was spilled on the floor after it was finished?
