Beam Span W/o Vertical Post Support

Well we've come onto an interesting job the owner has a converted barn 32' x 26'
All original posts and beams are retained . He had another company Redo foundation/sill replacement then build a 2 x 6 shell around the entire structure including roof.
Inside there is a 12 w x 12h x 22Lsolid wood beam
12 ft from the 26' wide wall, 10' high -
supported in the center by 12"x12 post ( in pic behind the Flag).

The beam is tied into the main vertical post on each end.
The owner would like to lower ( replace) the cross beam 3 ft due to headroom for a new loft floor -Floor joists w/ Standard weights apply -
Taking out the center post to open up 1st flr space as well. Pics were taken from existing loft opposite end of barn, He wants to duplicate this loft on this end. Beams were at different heights.

Our questions:
In order to do this what size beam ( Solid wood or steel) would replace this existing and method of attachment to main wall posts?

We ar43econtractor for the most part, that is why I don't engineer anything bigger than a storage shell.
Suggest you consult an engineer for this onE

Before the stoning erupts, let me advise you to call an engineer. Nobody here can, based on what you have shown us, can make a proper determination

Thank you guys for the quick replies. Just got word, the owner has discussed engineering costs with us and we are securing an engineer for the project.
As for posting this, we wanted to see how many out there had any experience doing this type of work, concerning old barns.
