Bathroom Tile Application
I have done tile a few different ways in the past. One way I have laid metal lathe and then poured concrete to set my tile on, also doing it that way for the tub walls. I have also used DuraRock on the floor, laying thin set first and then setting the DuraRock and waiting to the next day to set tile. I have also done this in the tub area.
I know that they have some new materials one has a drywall core i believe and install just like drywall and start tiling. Whats the best way to prep for the tile. I would like to know of new products, the layering process (studs, vabor barrier, drywall, and so on, just examples) and any suggestions and/or pictures and links would be great to.
Thanks, John

Awesome Product very easy to install, but a little pricey a cheaper alternative is hardibacker.

Hardibacker is not waterproof, you still need a waterproofing membrane applied to it or plastic behind it (which of course gets punctured by nails or screws

Would you put green board (mudded, sanded and primed) behind the hardi board first?

No. Greenboard has no place in any modern bathroom.

That's not bullnose, it's mudcap. Return it and spec bullnose.
What product is it?
edit: If you can't return it and you can't/don't want to pull mud, you could use 1/2" Durock over the drywall and Kerdi the whole thing.....That's a lot of work though. Hire somebody to mud it

John,
you have alot of catching up to do in new tile products and specs. Since you're in Michigan get over to a store called The Tile Shop or their website. That will get you started. Then get over to Tile Council of North America website. Also, any backerboard has an installation guide either where it's sold or on their website. Of course the tile forum here or some others will keep you in the know and reading into the night. Good luck.

Hardibacker will not rot when exposed to water, however, water can pass through it.

For bathrooms, we use DensArmor and then Kerdi over any wet location.
