Re: Bath Remodel

Great design.

If you don't mind me asking how much did you charge for the design aspect of the project?

Re: Bath Remodel

Is that a rendering? What software are you using?
At first it looked like a photo, but the faucet, windows, and mirror look askew. Very nice work!

Re: Bath Remodel

I do the 3d modeling in sketchup
and the rendering in kerkythea
both are free programs if anyone wants to test the waters

I try to make my designs look real
Homeowners dont want a blueprint or a marker composition
they want to see what their project will actually look like

Sometimes my biggest battle is trying to verbalize what I visualize and have the client understand.

But in all honesty, they have to be either be paying top dollar or a
design fee for me to come up with something like this.
But either way, the contract would have been signed and 3 days old before I even started with all the design work.

If my bathroom looked like that, my wife would make me **** and shave out in the back yard.

Very pretty.

Re: Bath Remodel

when you visit a homeowner that is serious about doing a remodel, the more professional you come across the better chances you have of getting the bid. I don't like to play "beat that price" on estimates. I know there are at least 20 other guys in area that can offer much cheaper bids than me.
I go once to home to check out space, measure sq footage, see what items they want to purchase, price out everything.
I set up a follow-up appointment a week later to give them price. I tell them that in the meanwhile they can "shop around". And I bring my design composition with me mounted on display when I return to sign the deal. I take them into the room they are wanting to remodel, and present price there with lovely design concept displayed in background.

This makes you stand out from crowd, and allows you to charge your prices.

Now if I'm just laying tile on a floor, I don't go through all the glamour of doing a 3D model of the project. I just do compositions like this for remodels, big projects, and commercial settings.

I'm not that great a salesman. But I'm an excellent closer.
So I rely on design sketches, my portfolio, and referrals to get jobs.
Never oversell, know when to go in for the close. The more ways you know of closing the deal, the greater the chance of landing the job.

Re: Bath Remodel

I love the design and just the idea of being able to show a client what the finished product would look like before doing the job...I told my father about the mosaic on the jacuzzi base idea..generally we sell jobs that are tiled to the ceiling and using mosaic, we sell bisazza, for the jacuzzi surrounding would add a whole new element to the bathroom..never thought of that before...I downloaded the two programs you stated that you used..I have played around with it alittle bit..great job!

I think basing a business around quality, creativity, and professionalism will in the long run lead to better clients, more clients, and better paychecks..I wish you lots of luck.

Re: Bath Remodel

thanks DaveK

relatively new to using Sketchup, and I've only had Kerkythea for a couple months

if you use their forums for both programs you'll become a whiz
a good time-killer for rainy days, and you bank a skill that may come in handy
