Bath Fitter & 1 800 Bathtub

I was doing a custom tile shower for a customer, I worked mon-friday and when I got back on Monday I needed to use the hall bath to relieve some pressure. I turn on the light and wtf the tub area was completely re don by Bath Fitters. I thought it looked sort of cheep. When I come out the homeowner asks how I like the new tub job. I asked if you don't mind what did they charge you and she said $3,000.00
I did this Custom shower in the master bath and my labor was 2,500.00 they bought the tile wonderboard and grout. It took me 7 working days and Bathfitter took only 5 1/2 hrs
I gotta be doing something wrong.

You're not doing anything wrong believe me. I run up against the acrylic cover up guys every once in awhile. Most customers don't realize that those businesses are usually run by somebody who got laid off from (you pick... GM, IBM, ect...) last year and decided to buy a franchise. It doesn't take long for a customer to get educated if you help them that there might be some issues with #1 covering something up (most people are naturally averse to covering up a problem instead of tearing out and fixing it right) #2 using a company who's major experience lays not in construction but in being a middle manager or a paper pusher 12 months ago.

Mike, seriously your lack of knowledge and understanding of what re-bath is is overwhelming. We are not the same as bath fitters. Of all the franchisee's that we network with, there isn't one that didn't come from a contracting background, and usually had added a re-bath to their normal remodeling business. The financial commitment needed to open a location would make it impossible for the "out of work, laid off paper pusher to start up! If you really want to have a serious conversation about what, and how we operate I would be glad to network with you.
