Bamboo Flooring

Was just wondering What you guys are getting to install Bamboo flooring? They already have the flooring but they want a price. the room is 200 sq ft.
I was thinking $500.00 but I want to be fair. any help would be appreciated

Thanks,

Alan

Re: Bamboo Flooring

A 200 ft wood job presents all kind of questions to me.

Its usually a hallway and youll have a gazillion doors to undercut and terminate.

Ultimately you need to know how long it will take and what your time is worth to you.

Re: Bamboo Flooring

You mean these questions Mike?

Whats the substrate?
How much prep is required?
Pulling base or 1/4 round?
Whats the plank width?
Existing removal?
Who supplies adhesive?
Furniture?
Layout?
Transitions?
How many door jambs to undercut?

I could keep going but hopefully you (and anybody else who wants to know "how much" without any info) get the point. To many variables to give a quote without seeing it....it sounds like you want to quote it over the phone. Thats a recipe for disaster.

Also. How much experience do you have with bamboo? I have seen experienced wood guys eat bamboo jobs because they thought it was just like any other wood. It ain't. Do your research

When it is all said and done, about $2000 average, give or take a buck or two.

Re: Bamboo Flooring

Careful the splinters are like long needles only sharper. Installs easy. Transition strips like to split out so use caution with them.

Re: Bamboo Flooring

Oh, to answer your question. 3 doorways, 200sq. ft., nailed down is about 4-5 man hours. So I would charge your day minimum. $600.00. You should be able to get a full 18 holes in after you finish before dark.

Are you setup tool wise to do this the rightway? Depending on the complexity of it an inlay can add a considerable amount of time or it may be an extra hour or two.

Oh really? Low bidder often?

Thats considered custom work and should be charged as such lest you continue to water the market down for those of us that really do this for a living.

Keep in mind I'm in the midwest. Lowes would charge 2.75 pf for that job or $550.00. My bid would come in at the upper end. 600 per day here would be the equivilant of 1000 per day or more on the left coast to achieve the same standard of living. And I'm in my 24th year so I have pretty much figured out the pricing game.

Also, that is not custom work lol. Nearly any homeowner can slap down some bamboo flooring.

Re: Bamboo Flooring

Thats why we try to stay away from pricing on here. Its a regional thing.

Lol@ slap down. I get 3 bucks a foot to install and 10 bucks a foot to repair a slapdown.

Re: Bamboo Flooring

On Long Island I would charge $1000 plus the price of any transition strips. But in Kansas they don't pay my taxes or liability rates....Regional thing.
