It's by bid for turn-key installs. We've got 17 homes going back to back till Spring of '08 if you were serious. Only negative is flooring has got to start asap. If you are road trippin, you better leave now. I need you tomorrow!

It may be because he has not found anyone within his budget that is skilled.

I'm always here. lol Actually, just overly swamped. We landed a couple of huge contracts all at once so haven't had time to breathe since August. I figured I'd post the sub opportunities we got going for guys here first to keep it in the family before scouting around.
All well with you J?

Actually, it's because we haven't found anyone who will show up when they say they will or will give a true bid that is professional enough to make me confident in their abilities.
With it being slow down season for many, I was shocked to have so many potential subs either show up 3 hours late without a courtesy call for the estimate or not show up at all. The two that did show up came in and spit out a labor only sq ft ballpark verbally. When someone shows up on time for the estimate, gives me a written bid that has an ounce of professionalism about it, and shows a shred of knowledge, I'll award them all 17 houses back to back. Until then, I guess it's keep on looking.
Same goes for the tile work and roofing... lol

What type of floors are they. WE do full service installations and sand and finish. Hard wood, carpet, tile stone laminate. I could not be there till after Thanksgiving but could leave immediately after that or I can fly in and take a look at the project and set up a schedule. Let me know the scope and pay and I'll get right back to you. I have 30 years experience in flooring and can get in and get it done for you. You can e-mail me at floorinstallations@cox.net or call me at 850-855-5876 ask for Gary

Skilled, doesn't just mean you can cut a board and drive a nail in the right spot.
Skilled means, skilled at running a business, also.
There are 3 things in the service labor business:
Price
Service
Quality
Pick two, because you will never see all three in a contractor.
Sounds like you have found the low price, but quality work guys... They can't service you because they are swamped.
The Quality and Service guys, are going to be over your budget.
The Price and Service guys, are going to cost you down time and failures, because their quality sucks.

I beg to differ, you won't find all three in someone who is just out there to earn the cash, with little or no regard to their reputation, solid business practices, and a shred of integrity. There are many legitimate Contractors out there who refuse to give any less than all three. Dispute that and I'll offer you a internship to show you it in fact can be done. The fact I won't touch one of those subs mentioned earlier says two out of three won't cut it around here.

I understand being swamped, we are backlogged until June '08. But when a potential new customer calls, I don't tell them the estimator will be out at xx time on xx day therefore giving the customer a committed appointment time and not show up or even call. If your swamped, you simply tell the customer that you are booked thru xx date and ask if they would like to wait for an opening and if not, thank them for the call and ask for future business if they have another project down the road. Not showing up or calling burns bridges with me. If a sub blows off the estimate, they certainly won't go do the job on time either.

I sincerely doubt that. To get those three you mentioned earlier, you pay more, but it's worth every dime when it comes to ROI.

If you shop by price, you are buying a headache. 'Nuff said

I don't get it. You say you need flooring contractors that are professional, show up on time do quality work, complete on time and on budget and yet you don't reply to my thread about work, don't reply to your PM and you give a disconnected phone number in your looking for sub's thread. Is that what you call professional? Get over yourself. I have been doing flooring for over 30 years. When I say I'm going to be there, I'm there with proper tools and adequate crews to complete the scope of work agreed upon. We do floors in multi million dollar homes all the time here on the emerald cost and I haven't had a call back in years. Maybe your arrogant attitude toward your subs is the reason you can"t find any. There are several hot-shot general contractors here in Florida that I refuse to work for because of their attitude or practice of not paying on time.

Willing to pay drive time from Ohio? lol Sorry had to ask. If you do have quite a bit of work, we would be willing to come down week to week to do the installs if the pay is worth it.

Please excuse me for having to put my mother in the hospital unexpectedly. Next time her blood pressure shoots up to near stroke level, I'll tell her she has to wait so that I can be right here in case you pm or post. And for what it's worth, I"m not sure who you pm'd, but there is zero in my unread box, and none of them have your name on them.

WTF? None of our numbers are disconnected what so ever dude. I didn't even post a phone number anywhere in either thread. Unless you were looking at my ICQ number on my profile, there isn't a number for us anywhere on this site. Here let me give them to you ... get a pen ready now... splattered for all the world to see. K&R Construction and Electric 423-638-3796 corporate office in Greeneville, or if you'd like our Nashville Office, 615-471-4143, want my personal cell too??

I have taken off a total of 3 days in all the years we have been at this. Did I answer the phone during the time I was off with mom, yes. Did I visit CTalk to check up on this thread? No

What arrogant attitude?? Honestly, where do you see arrogance in the fact that we do not use subs who do not represent the type of business we run as well? I commented on the one post where someone was saying you had to settle for two of the three and I said no, you aren't forced to settle, you just have to look harder sometimes. I don't see that as arrogance at all.
A little annoyed that I didn't call you right away to come up from Florida are we? Did you notice the title of the thread? Flooring subs in TN.. you know, Tennessee. Not Florida. These jobs will be ongoing for several months, and need a local subcontractor who can schedule around the other trades. That is why I didn't call you the first day I saw your post. You may be a fine flooring sub, but you didn't meet the criteria we needed... sub in TN.
I haven't visited this board in months, and you know why? Jerks like you. Thanks for reminding me of that.

no phone number
Sorry to hear about your mom hope she is doing alright. As far as the phone number you posted in the looking for help thread it is 423-329-3506. DISCONNECTED CALL IT YOURSELF. I did send you a PM as requested in your post. Your post conveyed a since of urgency so I assumed you would reply immediately since you wanted the perspective sub to not only reply immediately but start work the next day. Again I'm sorry to hear about your mom and I truly hope she gets better soon.

In an interest in fairness, he's right. I made a typo, it's 350 9 not 6.
