If you hire illegal aliens to remove them no precautions are necessary. The building next to mine (same building, same asbestos tile) is being renovated and they have a bunch of illegals just tearing them out and tossing them in a dumpster.

Re: 1958 Floor Tiles ,vinyl ?? Squares Asbestos????

I can almost guarantee they are 9 X 9 asphalt/asbestos tile.

asphalt asbestos are black.
vinyl asbestos are green or red.

three important things about asbestos you should remind yourself about.

1) there is no safe limit for exposure to asbestos fibers, You can get mesothelioma from a single fiber

2) there is no cure for mesothelioma.

3) mesothelioma is always fatal, death usually occurs within five years of diagnosis.

this does not mean you will get mesothelioma from exposure. There are many who live full productive lives breathing this stuff with no complications whatsoever perhaps with just a bit of lung scarring. But if you are diagnosed thirty of forty years later, get your estate in order because you are done.

If you want to do the removal here are the guidelines

Best thing to do is leave it down and just go over it, - - if that's an option . . .

Ive installed transite myself. And Ive removed it. And Ive used a masons hoe to reach in and pull the debris out of my pickup utility cap in a cloud of dust and into a four yard dumpster 25 years ago. So yes i have been exposed to it too. Many times. Yes i have some lung scarring. Yes i could very well die from it. I almost expect to. I used to think the warnings were of an exaggerated environmentalist alarmist nature. Then I did some research. And the results are unsettling to say the least.

Nobody even told us there was asbestos
in that stuff.
We wore bandannas for face masks cause
the dust from the worm drives caked in your
nose and throat so badly.
AAAH, the good ol' days!

Transite siding too
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...2004Dec17.html
Generic term, like Coke or Kleenex.
Stuff we put on schools and hospitals
was 2" siding and 1" soffit.
